Top tips for selling your home in January

viewing a property -make an offer on a house, get a mortgage if you’re self employed

Here at Redrose, home-owners often ask when is the best time to sell. The bad news is that the winter months can mean buyers would rather stay tucked up indoors, instead of braving the cold weather outside. Then there’s the fact that your property may not be looking its best. Without the garden in full bloom or the cheer of Christmas decorations to add a little sparkle, there’s the danger of everything looking…well, a little drab and dreary.

The good news is that January is a traditionally strong month for selling, as many people use the new year to ring in the changes. If you have been waiting to put your house on the market, now is a great time to do so because buyers will be thinking about the 12 months ahead.

With this in mind, we’ve put together some top tips on warming up your winter selling strategy.

Make the right first impression

If your garden is in need of a pick-me-up, then spend some time clearing away any dead vegetation and branches that may put off potential buyers. Make sure fences and gates are in a state of good repair, and tidy up lawns and borders.

Embrace the fact that the garden is never going to look lush and beautiful, but you are at least making an effort to allow viewers to appreciate its potential. A few well-placed photographs of you and the family enjoying the outdoor space on a sunny day won’t hurt either!

Warm and welcoming

Invest in some quality lighting to brighten your home and ensure that all bulbs are working correctly. It’s also a good idea to keep the heating on if you can, or set a timer to warm up your house an hour before viewings are taking place.

After all, nothing is more off-putting than stepping into a cold, unwelcoming building.

Choose the right estate agent

Not all estate agents are created equal. Make sure you’ve done your homework and ensured your agent has the right credentials before you sign on the dotted line. Redrose is the market leader for sales in Buckshaw Village and on average, we achieve 98% of the asking price.

We also have a fantastic track record of selling properties in January and beyond.
